Finally, a Scale That Tells You More Than Just a Number
I wanted a scale that would give me meaningful data, not just a weight readout. The Taylor Smart Total Body Composition Scale delivers exactly that. The 8-contact-point system, with four sensors on the platform and four on the retractable handle, captures a genuinely comprehensive picture of body composition across arms, torso, and legs. It’s not a DEXA scan, but for tracking trends over time, it’s a significant step up from a basic bathroom scale. The build quality on this thing is excellent. The 11.8″ x 11.8″ tempered glass platform feels solid underfoot, and the retractable handle mechanism is well-engineered. The vanishing LED display is bright and easy to read from standing height, which sounds minor until you’ve squinted at a washed-out screen on a cheaper scale. The Precision Hub app pairs quickly via Bluetooth and supports up to 8 user profiles, which is handy for a household. Weight readings are consistent and reliable, which is really the baseline expectation. The full body composition data is best treated as a trend-tracking tool rather than a clinical-grade measurement, but for monitoring whether your fitness efforts are actually moving the needle, it’s genuinely useful data to have at a glance every morning.

Reliable weight-only measurement, some neat features, some crap
I’ve never owned a body comp scale before. The instructions for this scale are very upfront that the way this type of scale reads all your information can be influenced by water weight, so I appreciated the clear honesty. This is no DEXA scan reliability, y’all.I wanted to specifically put it through a test based on the known unreliability of how this works. So I got home from the gym and even though I had to pee, instead I jumped on this scale and had the app do a scan.It read body fat at 29.9%, body water at 51.4%, water weight at 85.1lbs.Then I went pee, came back, and got on the scale again. Elapsed time between my scans, according to the app, was only two minutes.Second scan: Lost half a pound of “weight.” Body fat was now 25.6% (that’s a BIG difference), body water somehow went up to 54.6%, water weight somehow went up to 89.9lbs.Weird, but honestly, it was exactly what I expected. BIA scales are just an estimator. Not terrible if you’re looking to establish a trend line, but still, it’s an estimate. Two minutes and a wee can magically make you 4% leaner on body fat percentage. Sweet! So after immediately gathering data to confirm it’s a flawed system, I then got on and off the scale several times – not doing a body scan, just checking the weight. It was 100% reliable on just the straight pound measurement. (30 minutes later I had “lost” another .2lbs, though.) My older scale is not reliable like that – I can weigh myself five times in a row and it will be different each time. So the reliability on the weight measurement alone is good.I actually hate that the app REQUIRES you to set a “goal weight” when you set it up. I tried to skip it. It would not let me. It doesn’t offer you to choose another metric, either, like a “goal body fat percentage” or “goal visceral fat.” I get that most people who are weighing themselves are probably trying to “lose” “weight,” but requiring this instead of making it an option sucks. Some of us have relationships with our bodies that aren’t devoted to a fantasized number on a scale, and the fact that the app can’t even imagine a world where that’s the case for a user is pretty trash. The app is also pretty annoying when you start the scan. After pushing the button, it starts scanning right away… but it can’t, because first, you have to put your phone down, then you have to step on the scale, THEN bend down, pick up the handle, then get into the somewhat odd position of holding the handle at a 45 degree angle. When you do that, the app starts freaking out that you moved. Yeah, I had to move. Calm down. Give me literally ten seconds before you start the scan.A good feature of the app – it has a baby and pet feature. You push the pet feature and you can get on the scale, it will take a measurement, then you can step off the scale, pick up your pet, and then step back on. The app will do the math instantly for you and tell you what your pet weighs. I do really like this, though you can obviously just do it with any scale and do the math… provided you can look down over/around your pet and see the number! So it’s pretty slick that it will do it automatically.I don’t know how much I’ll use the body scan, and I have zero interest in engaging with their app for a “weight loss goal,” but I’m getting a puppy soon, so at least I’ll have lots of opportunity to use the pet feature.

Sleek, Feature Rich, Built Like A Tank!
I ordered this body scale as a replacement for a digital scale I had owned for many years. This is my first smart scale, and it is definitely something I wish existed around a decade ago when I was majorly into my fitness. The scale can be used with the native companion app (or an app of your choice) to help you keep track of everything, and I mean everything. It’s quite impressive.Operation of the scale is pretty much self-explanatory. It is powered by four AA batteries. Just jump on the scale, and the display will illuminate. You can also control the scale and cycle through the modes with the buttons along the front panel. The scale is very accurate at measuring weight in my testing.Quality wise, this scale is a tank. It is undoubtedly built to last with a maximum capacity of up to 440 lbs. As someone on the heavier side, I feel confident whenever I step onto this scale. I was always afraid my previous glass one was going to break. The scale measures roughly 12” x 12”, providing a large standing platform. The beefy feet make for a sturdy and stable foundation. The scale does not wobble at all. Also, I have to say the dark blue color looks really sleek and modern, which I’m a fan of.The display of this scale is really nice. It is backlit and bright, making it easy to read. On my old scale, the display would always wash out when viewing from above. This is not a concern with this scale. I played around with a few of the other measurements using the Apple Fitness app and can safely say this is by far the most capable scale I’ve ever owned. To sum it all up, I’m very impressed with the performance and quality of this scale from the Taylor brand. It will probably be the last scale I ever own. If you require a scale with all the bells and whistles but don’t want to break the bank, then this is the one for you.

A good looking scale with a clear screen and many features
Here is what I like about this scale:It looks good with the dark metallic navy blue color. The build quality is nice with the top glass surface and strong lower support. It uses 4 AA standard size batteries which are included. It reads your weight in pounds easily on the clear display. Here is what I did not like as much:Unfortunately I could not get the body mass composition feature to work. After 10 times, it did not provide any readings. In order to use metric measurements, it appears the app must be used.
